 circulatory system The circulatory system is like a highway that runs through your body. It is responsible for carrying oxygen, nutrients, and waste products to and from the cells in your body. It works by pumping blood through a network of blood vessels.   Main Parts of the Circulatory System: Heart: The heart is a muscle that pumps blood throughout your body. It has four chambers: Two upper chambers called atria . Two lower chambers called ventricles . Blood Vessels: Arteries : Carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Veins : Carry oxygen-poor blood back to the heart. Capillaries : Tiny blood vessels where the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and waste happens. Blood: Blood carries oxygen, nutrients, and waste. It has red blood cells (carry oxygen), white blood cells (fight infection), platelets (help in clotting), and plasma (the liquid part).
